how to style your single braids

How to care for your hair in the upcoming winter

Different seasons require different hair care techniques to maintain healthy hair. While you might wear your hair out much more often in the summer and rely on carefree styles when it's warm outside, your hair care routine will change during winter if you want to maintain healthy locks. Here are some winter hair care tips that will keep your tresses in great shape so that when spring rolls around, your hair will be ready to face warm weather in good health.

1. Beware Breakage

If you experience breakage in one or two specific areas of your hair, it might have nothing to do with how you care for it, but what you wear on it. Wool hats and scarves can rub against and pull on delicate black hair, breaking it off at the nape of your neck (where the scarf might sit) or at the crown of your head. You need a hat and scarf if you live in a snowy climate, but the trick is wearing them the right way to avoid damage. Try sewing a satin or silk lining inside your wool cap. If you're not crafty enough to do this, ask a friend or family member who is. Before wrapping that wool scarf around your neck, make sure your hair is out of the way, either through a protective style or already secured beneath your properly lined hat.

2. Deep Condition More Often

Heated homes and work spaces can dry out your hair, so combat this dryness with extra deep conditioning. Look for humectant products which hold in moisture and use a good deep conditioner about once a week.

3. Wet Less Often

It's no fun leaving the house on a frosty morning with wet or damp hair. If you live in a freezing climate, your hair may actually freeze and break if you step outside with wet hair. Even if a wash n' go was your go-to style in the spring and summer, winter requires less shampooing and daily wetting. You should still shampoo and condition about once a week, but since you aren't swimming often, you don't need to wet and/or conditioner wash as much.

4. Use Heat Even Less

Indoor heating is going to suck some of the moisture from your hair. Don't help it along with flat irons, blow dryers and curling irons. Winter is an ideal season to practice setting techniques like wet sets (completely dry before you head out the door), pin curls and wraps, none of which require heat to style your hair.

5. Rethink Protective Styling

While wearing protective styles is always a good idea for keeping hair ends up and out of the way, they work especially well in winter for protecting your hair from harsh weather. Snow, sleet and heat won't be able to damage your hair as much when you keep it styled in buns, topknots, braids, twists and French rolls.

Interseting article I found for straightening our hair ladies:)

How To Straighten Afro Hair

How To Straighten Afro Hair : Straighten Afro Hair. Make up artist and hair stylist Claire De-Graft shows how to straighten afro hair that has been relaxed. Straighten Afro Hair. Make up artist and hair stylist Claire De-Graft shows how to straighten afro hair that has been relaxed.
Step 1: You will need
  • a heat protective hair product
  • some large hair clips
  • 1 tail comb
  • ceramic straighteners
  • some hair spray
  1. Step 2: Prepare the hair

Apply some heat protective product to the hair first to protect it when straightening. Put a small amount on your hands and rub them together. Then work the product through the hair from the roots to the tips, making sure it is evenly applied.
  2. Step 3: Clip into sections

Separate the hair into sections using a tail comb. Leave some loose at the bottom and pin the rest up with a large clip.
  3. Step 4: Heat the straighteners

Your straighteners will need some time to heat up- always follow the manufacturer's instructions. Place them on a non-flammable surface while they are heating and do not leave them unattended.
  4. Step 5: Straighten

Close the straighteners over the loose section of hair and, starting from the root, drag them down the hair to the tip. Immediately run the comb through the straightened section.
  5. Step 6: Repeat

Repeat the previous step, loosening another section of hair each time, straightening and combing through as before. Continue straightening the rest of the hair
  6. Step 7: Style

Part the hair using the tail end of the comb and style into a sleek look.
To prevent frizzing and hold the style in place, spray lightly with hair spray.

trans-gendered 7yr old boy

hey ladies so a friend of mine watched an oprah show a couple of days ago regarding a seven year old trasgenered boy:
"Ok so teh topic is about transgenders... So iw as watching Oprah the other day and there was this story about a 7 year old boy that decided when he was 3 that he wasnt supposed to be a born a boy he was supposed to be a girl. So his parents decided that they were going to take him seriously and for the last 4 years have changed his name to from Harry to Haley and dress him and address him as a girl. So now he is a she and everyone address him as she. Now i want to know from you ladies where you stand on this? I know its a free world and we can do as we please but I just feel as a parent we are supposed to guide our children down the right direction, no? This CHILD is 7 years old! how does he know what the difference is? I was very saddened with the episode because i felt that the parents didnt try hard enough to steer their son in the right direction. Mind you we obviously dont know what excatly went down all these years and how it has affected them but do i feel they could have done things differently? Yes! They could find a diff way to address the situation.

Now correct me if im wrong and tell me if im being closed minded or just plain judgemental but as a mother i just feel it is unfair to assume that 3year old would know what the consequences of his/her actions are. This is a lifetime of therapy for this child when he enters the real world and is bullied.
That was my rant let me know what you think ladies! would be nice to hear what others think...:)"

so ladies let us know your take on this topic:)

how retain moisture in your hair

So my friend Phil asked me what exactly we can do to retain moisture in our hair especially during the winter time.

  • regular oil treatment withcholesterol does wonders to your hair in terms of keeping it oily.
  • using petroleum in it at least twice a week is very good to.
  • if you dont like your hair being over oily then you can spray braid sheen or spray on a daily bases to retain the moisture.

dandruff

a couple of days ago one of my frtiends was concerned by the amount of dandruff in her hair.
i would like to tell you guys that dandruff is a good sign. dandruff is dead hair cells and the more of them you have the faster your hair is growing. it is important though to remove the dandruff regularly and the best way to do that is to comb your sculp softly so that the dandruff rises and then wash your hair because if you dont the dandruff will still be there even though you have shampooed your hair and it is clean.
for those with excess dandruff i would recommend you wash your hair with head and shoulders. it really works for me and my mom.
